Early Life and Challenges
Memory’s early life was marked by numerous challenges, from marrying young and raising children while working on a farm, to eventually escaping a difficult situation in Zimbabwe and seeking refuge in Ireland. In Dublin, Memory found not only a new home but also a new passion: caring for others.
Memory’s Own Words
“I was born and raised in the small village of Kapane, nestled within the town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. My life took an unexpected turn when I got married at the tender age of 15. Becoming a mother came swiftly as well; I welcomed my firstborn, Nontobeko, when I was just 16. A few years passed, and my second child, Bongiwe, came into our lives.
During those days, I spent my time working alongside my husband on a farm, tending to cattle. In the moments between, I would lend my hands to skillfully braid hair for the women in our tight-knit community.
That time was a constant struggle for me. But fate had other plans, and my path led me to Ireland with the aid of a compassionate missionary who introduced me to the possibilities beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
In the year 2017, I found myself in Dublin, seeking asylum and embarking on an entirely new chapter of my life. Amidst the challenges and uncertainties, I became a mother once more, embracing the arrival of my third child, Thubelihle. This foreign land also ignited an unexpected passion within me—a fervour for caring for others, a calling that transformed into a fulfilling career.”

In Dublin, Memory became a qualified Healthcare Worker and acquired years of experience providing care in various settings. That was how Memory recognized the need for more compassionate and personalised care in the community. Drawing from her own experiences, she founded Bongiwe Home Carers in 2017, with the mission of providing the best care for those in need.
“We provide reliable home support for elderly and people with disabilities who need assistance with daily living tasks by providing compassionate and trained professionals, thereby enhancing their quality of life”, Memory says.
